Worty
Privacy Policy
Last updated: 30 August 2026
This Privacy Policy describes how the Worty app (“we”, “us”, “our”) processes data when you use the Worty Android mobile app, distributed through Google Play, and when you visit this public website.
Worty is an educational app for learning German vocabulary: translation and dictionary hints, a personal word list, and practice reminders. We also plan or already offer account registration (including Google Sign-In) and usage analytics.
We do not sell personal data and we do not use the contents of your vocabulary for advertising profiling.
1. Who is responsible for the data
For the provider under German law (Impressum), see Legal notice / Impressum. Terms of Service: Terms of Service.
2. What data we process
- On-device data. Saved words, translations, learning progress, and quiz settings are stored locally on your device.
- Search and translation queries. Words and phrases you enter may be sent to third-party translation and dictionary services (for example MyMemory, Wiktionary) to show a result. Do not enter passwords, addresses, health information, or other sensitive data into search.
- Account data (registration). If you create an account, we may process your email address, sign-in credentials, and technical authentication tokens — for sign-in, account recovery, and data sync (if that feature is enabled).
- Google Sign-In. If you register or sign in with Google, we receive from Google an account identifier and the basic profile data you allowed the app to receive (typically email address and, if available, name / profile photo). We do not receive your Google account password.
- Analytics. We collect anonymized or pseudonymized information about app usage (for example screen views, feature events, app version, device model, OS version) to understand how the product works, find bugs, and improve the Service. Analytics is not used to show personalized ads.
- Technical and diagnostic data. If the app crashes, we may process error logs, app version, and device information for stability and security.
- Device permissions. Internet — for translation and sync; notifications — for practice reminders (if you choose). The current version does not request camera, microphone, location, or contacts without a separate update to this policy.
3. Why we use the data
- provide translation, dictionary, and practice features;
- create and maintain an account, including Google Sign-In;
- sync progress across devices (if available);
- analyze usage and improve the app;
- keep the Service secure and prevent abuse;
- meet legal and app-store requirements.
4. Who we may share data with
We share data only to the extent needed to operate the Service:
- translation and dictionary services (the content of your search query);
- hosting and authentication infrastructure (account storage and related data);
- Google — when you use Google Sign-In and when we use Google Play / Google analytics services;
- the Google Play platform — distribution, updates, and (if available) purchases.
Third-party services process data under their own privacy rules. We do not sell your data to third parties.
5. Where data is stored and how long we keep it
Local data on the device is kept until you delete it or uninstall the app. Account data on the server is kept while the account is active; after account deletion it is deleted or anonymized within a reasonable time, unless the law requires longer retention. Analytics and diagnostic data are kept for as long as needed for the purposes described above.
Some processing may take place outside your country of residence (including by Google services). In those cases, available legal safeguards for data protection apply.
6. Children and younger users
The App is intended for a general audience of learners. We do not carry out advertising profiling of children. Analytics is configured with data minimization in mind. Parents are encouraged to supervise younger users’ use of translation features.
7. Your rights
Depending on applicable law, you may:
- request access to your data;
- correct inaccurate data;
- delete your data or account (when that feature is available);
- restrict or object to certain kinds of processing;
- withdraw consent, if processing is based on consent;
- lodge a complaint with a data protection authority.
To exercise these rights, contact us via the developer contact on Google Play. For Google Sign-In, you can also manage the app’s permissions in your Google account settings.
8. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures (encryption in transit via HTTPS, restricted access to server systems, minimizing the data we collect). Absolute security does not exist; if you suspect an incident, contact us.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this Policy. The current version is published on this page with a new last-updated date. Material changes may also appear in the app update description.
